Abstract

The Whanganui Iwi (Whanganui (Kaitoke) Prison and Northern Part of Whanganui Forest) On-account Settlement Act 2011 was the only Treaty Settlement Bill enacted in 2011. However, a number of settlement bills are currently before the House.

Settlement legislation that will implement agreements with Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Pahauwera, and Ngāti Manawa and Ngāti Whare were reported back from the Māori Affairs Select Committee in 2011. The Ngāti Tāmanuhiri and Ngāti Mākino settlement bills were introduced in 2011.

These Bills were reintroduced to the House on 21 December 2011 as part of the formal reinstatement of business following the General Election and the opening of the new Parliament.
