Abstract

English Abstract: This paper focuses on the concept of the Nakbah, the reasons that paved the way to it, and its consequences. Was it an awful event that occurred at a precise point in time, or a tragedy that Palestinians have inherited whose repercussions continue to affect each succeeding generation? What are the prospects for a final solution to this disaster in the eyes of its Palestinian victims who have been touched by the calamity at home and in the diaspora? And what is the position of the new settlers who came from overseas to occupy the land? Many of these questions have been posed by Al Jazeera Satellite Channel in several documentary films that it has produced since the channel’s founding in the mid-1990s.

In May 2013, i.e., on the 65th anniversary of the Nakbah, Al Jazeera commissioned Ahmed Al Sheikh to prepare and produce four film episodes on the topic “Al-Nakbah ... Enduring ... Unforgettable Right,” which captured the attention of viewers around the world. These episodes confirm that the Nakbah is neither a memory of the lost homeland, nor a description of a tragedy that started long ago, but an open wound, a sense of lasting bitterness, and a pain that has ravaged the hearts and souls of Palestinians for over six decades!
