Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to explore the role of 3-D film in the formation of spatial presence and enjoyment. The conducted experiment employs a between-subjects design with one experimental factor (2-D film vs. 3-D film). In order to maximise ecological validity this study examines the effects of 3-D film in a setting similar to a home cinema. The results indicate that the 3-D version of the film elicits higher level of spatial presence and higher level of enjoyment than the 2-D version. The study confirms further that spatial presence is positively associated with enjoyment, as several studies have demonstrated before. Finally, the conducted experiment provides evidence that the relationship between the film version and enjoyment is mediated through spatial presence. The results are discussed in the light of theoretical considerations.
