Abstract
The French Army Reserve’s Superior-Level Staff Officer Course, or the Cours supérieur des officiers de réserve spécialistes d’état-major (CSORSEM) is the only short-term (three weeks), multinational, combined arms, brigade-level, battle staff officer course in the world available to U.S. military officers. The CSORSEM is open to non-combat and combat support officers, including judge advocates. The CSORSEM is also unique because it is designed for reservists, although it is open to both reservists and active duty Soldiers. This article explains what CSORSEM is, how judge advocate reservists can apply and prepare for its final three-week stage, and how CSORSEM supplements judge advocates’ staff officer education through classroom instruction and simulated brigade-level exercises provided in a foreign context.
