Abstract

Justice La Forest was a judge of the New Brunswick Court of Appeal from 1981 to 1985, and subsequently a judge of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1985 to 1997. His judgments made important contributions to almost every area of private law, and they continue to be an important source of the law, and of stimulating and original legal ideas. In this article, ten specific areas of private law to which Justice La Forest contributed are examined.
