Abstract
This article traces the development of immunity from seizure and suit statutes. In so doing, it considers the role that immunity plays in resolving art disputes and the nature of the balance between achieving a just outcome for claimants and encouraging the role that art plays as cultural ambassadors fostering understanding, co-operation and comity between nations.
