Right to Education: Roma Children in Central Europe

Abstract

This paper deals with the topic of the right to education, as a social right, with particular focus on Roma. It aims at analysing recent case law of the European Court of Human Rights in the field of segregation of Roma children in some schools in Central Europe. The policy and legislation of the EU, including CJEU case-law in the field of equal treatment regardless of race and ethnic origin, is discussed. The final part deals with the legislation and practice of a much criticised country – the Czech Republic.
