Abstract
The track record of the use by Congress of South African Trade Unions of ICT tools and services reveals that the potential for cyber-unionism in South Africa offers mixed prospects. On the one hand COSATU has recognised and sought to exploit the possibilities afforded by e-mail, the Internet and other tools of cyber-activism. On the other, the federation has faced a number of constraints, including lack of access to infrastructure, difficult organisational dynamics, lack of computer literacy and support capacity, as well as a number of cultural challenges.
