Abstract
This case study is part of the CEPS project ‘Climate for Sustainable Growth’, whose main objective is to analyse the impacts of climate change mitigation measures on the three pillars of sustainable development: the economic, environmental and social dimensions. It analyses food labeling via studies of cocoa labeling in Ghana, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, and the EU's initiative on product environmental footprinting (focusing on food).
The structure of this case study follows the methodology outlined in the paper “Climate for Sustainable Growth: Scoping Paper”, and comprises of four sections:
(1) Sector characteristics: agriculture and climate change;
(2) Climate-related policies: the labels and standards;
(3) Environmental, social and economic impacts of the policies;
(4) Measures to mitigate impacts of the policies.
This case study, and the methodology it follows, are not intended to analyse the merit of the policies and measures that are being implemented, or their effectiveness and efficiency, but will focus on their socioeconomic-environmental impacts, and measures to alleviate these impacts in the period of transition.
