Abstract

Is mooting accorded equivalent importance within the legal profession and within law departments? We would evaluate application forms for various stages of the process of entry into the legal profession to determine the value placed on mooting as a key skill. We will also be seeking the views of those involved in the recruitment and selection process.

Are the views of the legal profession regarding mooting, reflected in the emphasis given to mooting within different law departments? Information to be ascertained includes:

* how many law departments have an active mooting ethos * how much staff involvement is there in mooting within active departments * what contributes to a strong mooting department

It is anticipated that the importance with which mooting is viewed within the legal profession is not uniformly reflected within law departments. It is acknowledged that the importance accorded to mooting will vary between different law departments and is proposed to provide an overview of the differing positions which exist.
