Abstract

English Abstract: This paper describes the regulations about kosher and halal slaughtering in the Netherlands since 1870. There have been protest against the allowance of religious slaughtering, that is animal being slaughtered without being stunned first ever since the stunning of animals before slaughtering became legally mandated. From the end of the 19th century animal protectionists have tried to forbid or limit unstunned slaughtering. A century later the critique is still there. New is that it is about halal meat and that not only animal protectionist but also anti-Islamist join in the protests.
