Abstract
The 21st century is the century of information explosion. Information needs of the society at every level have been growing continuously as well as at an alarming speed. To rationally answer to the social demands, the academic libraries have to be invariably the richest sources of information and to be so, resource sharing amongst the libraries is the only feasible solution. Since Internet offers collaborative platform, independent protocols and public domain tools, development of new collaborative and interactive social media applications and services leads to the value additions to the existing services which become quite easy. Creating awareness about access to e-resources among participating members is also necessary for deriving the best possible advantage of the e-resources consortia which are successfully running for collaborative utilisation of pooled resources.
In view of the above, this paper deliberates on the recent development in the area of research and academics, which are now available in open access cloud based system through online networking models. Our research findings as well as researchers profiles are now visible to the rest of the world. We are truly in the age of information transfer and sharing of information across the world, where we all want to share our ideas and information and in return we get some other valuable information for our research and development.
Many academic and research sharing and collaborating sites are now coming up for sharing research papers and thoughts. Some of the important collaborative research sharing platform and media tools are viz., Research Gate, Academia.edu, Mendeley, Knimbus, LinkedIn, Facebook , Twitter etc which are definitely rule the world of sharing. Now capacity building can be promising through collaborative and interactive social media tools in the age of emerging era of ICT. And Web technologies. Now the researchers can make interdisciplinary research collaboration as Internet technologies have enabled academics to make use of Internet connectivity for online collaboration and sharing of research materials with higher speed and effectiveness.
