Abstract

This brief article explores how law professors might incorporate mindfulness exercises into their programs to help prepare students for success in law school and their future careers. Studies show that mindfulness and meditation tie closely to physical benefits like improved neuroplasticity, increased brain matter density, and reduced cognitive declines, such as those associated with advancing age. Mindfulness is connected to just about everything that law professors wish for their students: better memory and capacity for learning new skills, reduced anxiety, higher-quality sleep, improved decision-making skills, the ability to cope with stress in healthy ways, stronger empathy and communication proficiency, and improved overall wellbeing, among others. A list of resources with links to further reading is included.

Keywords: mindfulness, neuroplasticity, student success, stress, wellbeing, meditation
