Abstract

English Abstract: The article considers the patterns of competition in Yugoslav food industry. This industry means as one of the most competitively part of Yugoslav economy. The analysis is based on the official statistical data of ZOP and Statistical Bureau, by the using of standard methodological method for the measurement of supply concentration (concentration coeficients Kn and HH indices).

It is showed that in this industry (manufacture of food products, beveragres and tobaco) the supply concentration is very high, with strong monopolistic and oligopolistic structures in production of many product.

As the results of the cluster analysis was precise classification of markets of products in this manufacture into four great groups: (1) monopolies, (2) duopolies and quasioligopolies, (3) oligopolies and (4) competition, with further divisions within these clusters. Contents of clusters, e.g. the number of products within each of clusters accept most frequencies o f monopolistic and oligopolistic structures, but competition structures only in less then 10% (20 products) from 218 products are present.

These results accept the conclusion that the market of food production in Yugoslavia isn’t satisfied, and that gives the posibilities for further development of this industry, e.g. the improvement of new production and expansion of exchange of food products on the Balkans and with other countries.
