Abstract

A number of states have passed laws to limit gun sales to one gun a month in an attempt to reduce unlawful gun trafficking. Some states have subsequently repealed such laws. Do these laws reduce murder rates? This paper examines evidence that changes in murder rates associated with these laws are more plausibly explained by reductions in other measurable symptoms of social disorder.
