Abstract

Abortion is an important heath issue for Australian women. Each year an estimated 100 000 women undergo an abortion. In Australia there are eight different sets of abortion laws across state and territory jurisdictions resulting in great discrepancies in the legal provision of abortion services and hence women's access to abortion. This Brief outlines the problems and limits of current laws and recommends reform.
