Abstract

We discuss a few supply chain design concepts and optimization models that have been applied in the energy sector. It is not our intention to provide a comprehensive review of the vast literature. Our goal is to provide the reader with pointers to some interesting and challenging problems, thereby triggering thoughts on the synergies between supply chain optimization and energy sustainability. To this end, we select four supply chain research areas that have seen substantial synergies with energy research. These four areas are: strategic sourcing, inventory management, supply chain competition, and network design. This chapter discusses these areas and related applications in the energy industry.
