Abstract

Technological advancements have drastically changed the telecommunication industry and the use of satellites for telecommunications has become the most extensive and commercialized space application. Today, information telecommunication technology has become so humongous, advanced and multi-faceted that it affects not only economy but also its impacts on political, social and cultural front have become apparent. This article describes the convergence of information and telecommunication sector, its impact on various fronts and draws attention towards the existing and future major challenges with respect to their regulation. In the end, having analyzed the challenges, some suggestions to the effect of revision in regulatory mechanisms and the role of national authorities and international organizations to cope up with these pressing issues are made.
