Abstract

Shifting emphasis away from conventional discourse on biotechnology, the three editors of the present volume, in partnership with twenty-one other contributors, sought to use the principles of sustainable development to evaluate the Protocol and its ability to realize sustainable development. The volume is published as a pioneer title under the new Cambridge University Press series on treaty implementation for sustainable development. The volume’s centres on sustainable development theory and the Cartagena Protocol, and reflects a different emphasis and conceptual outlook from the general literature on regulation of biotechnology.
