Abstract

On June 23, 2016, a slight majority of the British people delivered one of the harshest blows in history to the European integration project known as the European Union (EU). But what exactly are the implications of the results of the British Brexit referendum? When will the TEU Article 50 procedure be triggered, and how would one expect the negotiations to be conducted? This essay addresses what can be expected to unfold in the near future as a result of this outcome and what the options are for a new relationship between the United Kingdom (UK) and the EU. It also addresses what the implications are for the trade partners of the EU, such as Israel, in their future relations with the UK.
