Abstract

Today in the United States we have many legislative bodies passing laws, rules and regulations including the federal legislature Congress, the state legislature, the county administration, the city council and even the local homeowners association. We are talking about trillions of legal provisions encompassing millions of volumes of law libraries and databases that have the potential to allow the government to monopolize the daily lives of Americans. We have far too many laws rules and regulations in our nation today and it is getting too far out of control. Each legislative session both at the state and federal levels our lawmakers return to pass more laws. Rather than just doing the requirement of making society livable these legislative provisions are often the result of personal experiences, special interest groups, office politics, political party agendas, financial interests and a host of other miscellaneous superficial reasons.

The concept of overcriminalization has been around for a substantial amount of history since before the prohibition era and even the civil war. I promote an end to overcriminalization as a libertarian where I want no more government that absolutely necessary interfering with my life and liberty.

Criminal law should not be the first recourse to every problem that society has to deal with.
