Abstract
This article analyzes the tension between the two core components of the identity of Israel as a Jewish and a democratic state. Although there are concerns regarding the possibility of the coexistence of these two components, I will argue that they are neither a contradiction nor a zero-sum game and that in fact, the test of democracy in Israel is in the way it negotiates the tensions between them.
