Abstract

Rongkab inscription dated back to 823 Śaka and it was written under the rule of Rakai Watukura Dyah Balitung who reigned from 820 until 832 Śaka. The Rongkab inscription commemorated the gift given by the Sang Pamegat Umanggit named Pu Parwata to the elders of Rongkab village so they could have one kaṭik free of tax. Kaṭik was a unique case in Rongkab inscription since it was only mentioned in farm-related things in other inscriptions, thus this study would talk about kaṭik using different point of view. In addition, the Rongkab inscription itself would be studied more deeply, both epigraphically and archaeologically.

Keywords: inscription, Balitung, kaṭik, Rongkab, social aspect, Ancient Mataram, Java
