Abstract

English Abstract: Deregulation in national banking sectors boosts the concentration of banks and the creation of universal banks. In Austria, this creates problems for specialized banks that trace their monopoly position back to legal provisions. In parallel, new special financial institutions emerge as market-driven offsprings from the traditional banking business. In future the large universal banks will thus be complemented by smaller banks with expertise in special banking services.
