Abstract
Benzodiazepine analogs are used as antianxiety, sedative, hypnotic, muscle relaxant and anticonvulsant agents in medicine. The anticonvulsant effects of benzylimidazolylthiadiazolidines, non-benzodiazepine BZR ligands 2a-c were studied in mice in order to identify more potent anticonvulsant agents. The maximal electroshock test was used for assessing antiseizure effects.Diazepam as well as non-benzodiazepine BZR ligands 2b and 2c decreased the duration of tonic seizures and showed a statistically significant anticonvulsant activity in the maximal electroshock test. However, the efficacy of these BZR ligands was lower than diazepam. Results indicate that 2b and may have beneficial effect in grand mal seizures.
