Abstract

Three kinds of people call for the regulation of artificial intelligence:

A) Those who believe that robots will come to dominate us. We show that these concerns are too speculative to slow down a field that saves many lives, for instances of driving.

B) Those who fear that autonomous weapons will turn on their makers and are unethical. We suggest that one should try to gain an international agreement to ban fully autonomous weapons.

C) There are those who are concerned that AI will kill many jobs and create few new ones. We wonder if the response may not require a major cultural change.
