Abstract
This paper will examine the interplay between international norms on investment protection and national policymaking, with particular focus on developing countries. How do international norms influence national realities? How do government agencies and officials perceive international norms and their efficacy? The paper seeks to make a novel contribution to the existing literature by deploying the emergent empirical data to test various claims about the effects of investment treaty law on governance in host states.
