Abstract

Although scholars have theorized about systemic racialized police violence, less attention has been given to systemic practices in the investigations and grand jury proceedings surrounding cases of excessive police force and black bodies. This article, focusing on the shooting death of Michael Brown, emphasizes that it was not just the killing itself, but also the investigation and grand jury proceeding, which exemplify white heteropatriarchal performance on vulnerable bodies.
