Abstract

Redmond & Baveja (2002) developed a racial match index to measure whether the racial composition of the police force matches that of the community population it serves. The factor measured by this index was considered key for garnering community help during community policing. On the other hand, Avery, McKay, Tonidandel, Volpone, & Morris (2012) also proposed a measure for representativeness of racio-ethnic community. The racial match index and the representativeness index might look dissimilar with different expressions but the underlying assumptions seemed similar. The aim of this paper is to prove the similarity of the measures. In this paper, we mathematically prove the equivalence of both the measures.
