Abstract

English Abstract: We study systemic risks in the Korean banking sector via the SRISK model (Brownlees and Engle, 2012). The model reveals a dynamic relationship between an individual bank and the banking system by help of the DCC (dynamic conditional correlation) model using equity returns’ data. As an early warning index, we propose the SRISK indices for the banking system. Among the indices from different data frequencies, we find that the index using daily frequency is the most informative, and furthermore that the systemic risk contribution of an individual bank has a nonlinear relationship with the size of the bank.
