Abstract

Spanish Abstract: La confección es considerada como una de las actividades productivas más importantes en el mundo, representa el 30% de la producción mundial. Las diferencias entre la competitividad de diferentes locaciones productivas condiciona la participación en este lucrativo mercado. Objetivo: identificar la relación entre el sector confección chino con el mismo sector en Colombia durante el período 2000 a 2008. Metodología: Comparación a partir de índices de competitividad. Marco de referencia: El sector confección es representativo dentro del sector manufacturero del sistema mundo, ha empezado a experimentar cambios importantes como la mayor presencia y participación de China dentro del mercado internacional debido al ingreso de este país a la Organización Mundial del Comercio. Los resultados muestran que China posee una mayor ventaja competitiva que Colombia en la exportación al mundo de confecciones. Sin embargo, Colombia posee la ventaja en el desarrollo de productos diferenciados.

English Abstract: The clothing industry is regarded as one of the most important productive activities in the world, representing 30% of world production. Differences in the competitiveness of different manufacturing locations determine who gets what in this lucrative market. Objective: To identify the relationship between the Chinese manufacturing sector with the same sector in Colombia during the period 2000 to 2008. Methodology: A comparison based on the Global Competitiveness Index. Frame of reference: The apparel industry is representative within the manufacturing sector of world system, it has started to experience major changes as the increased presence and participation of China in the international market due to entry of this country to the World Trade Organization. The results show that China has a competitive advantage in exporting apparel to the world vis-a-vis Colombia. However, Colombia has the advantage in the development of differentiated products.
