Abstract
Article is devoted to investigation of the problem of preferences of Russian youth in playing online digital games. We made sociological investigation of 300 of students in Russia (St. Petersburg). The main research method is questionnaire. The questionnaire was conducted to reveal preferences of participation of students in online digital games.
More than half of the students (55%) prefer online client games. Less than half of student (44%) of students prefer browser online games. We argue that the advantage of browser games is that gamer shouldn’t install game and download a client. If a student-gamer has a low Internet connection speed, he/she will not be able to download the client. Gamer in such case will only be able to play in the more simple browser-based online games.
According to respondents the chose browser online games, because "no need to download the client". Respondent who chose client online games stressed that such games have more better graphics.
We made the conclusion that preference of youth in Russia in playing online games depends on personal psychological characteristics and objective technical situation including availability of Internet and technical possibilities of computer.
