Abstract

Do the discourses and practices surrounding reproductive rights lead to women having more reproductive freedoms? This project will look specifically at the application of reproductive rights through discursive and programmatic interventions in family planning throughout West Africa--a region with very low contraception prevalence. Based on preliminary data, I suggest that the interlinking of reproductive rights discourse and development practices (rights-based development) actually infringes on West African women's reproductive rights.
