Abstract

English Abstract: The article analyzes the effects of the European Central Bank's very expansionary monetary policy on the economic order and the European integration process from an ordo-liberal perspective. It is argued that the economic order as constituted by Eucken (1952), which was shaped by Germany, has long served a cornerstone for growth, prosperity and social cohesion in Europe. It is shown that the monetary policy crisis management of the European Central Bank has undermined the constitutive principles by Eucken (1952) as the economic basis of the European integration process. As monetary policy rescue operations have negative distribution effects and induce slow growth, the European integration process is weakened via the resulting growing political polarization. Therefore a timely exit from the very expansionary monetary policy is recommended to safeguard the future of the European Union.
