Abstract

The aim of the present study is to explore and analyse a few of those situations where obligations under EU law concern Member States’ national interests being linked to their international treaty relations. The question of the extent of the powers of the European Union institutions in the field of external action is not only of considerable practical importance, but has constitutional significance. The problem of sharing treaty-making powers between the EU and its Member States more and more often gives rise to legal disputes.
