Abstract

We have grown nonlinear organic single crystals of p-hydroxy acetophenone (HAP) and methyl-p-hydroxy benzoate (MHB) using a new gel-solution technique. These crystals are cut along z-axis and irradiated Ag+ heavy ions. The results shows that there is a increase in refractive index at the ion irradiated region in both cases and the dielectric constant of these crystals increased more than 10 times. In this paper the results of change in dielectric constant at different frequencies, change in refractive index and comparative study of second harmonic generation efficiency before and after irradiation are described and the possibility of waveguide formation is discussed.
