Global Formations: IMF Conditionality and the South as Legal Subject

Abstract

In my view, accepting the invitation to read events as representing something entirely new encourages us to assume the existence of the very things we need to examine and so risk reinscribing old oppressions in new guises. Instead, attention should be paid to the particular instances in which an articulation of a juridical order is producing a particular subjectivity. In this chapter, I will explore one such instance: the interventions in the South of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
