Abstract
It has been studied that there are several ways by which bio-fouling influences the loading on offshore structure such as by increasing drag coefficient leads to increase in hydrodynamic loading, altering the dynamic response of structure by introducing added mass, affecting the vortex shedding pattern etc. Therefore, oil and other marine industries are looking for sustainable, economical and eco-friendly solution to prevent bio-fouling at its initial stage itself. This paper presents a new scalable device consisting of durable set of components forming movable chain like structure around offshore structures which prevents bio-fouling by continuous rubbing action. Device is driven by ocean wave and ocean current causing reciprocating and rotational motion respectively about offshore structures. In the present work, a unique design of anti-fouling device is conceptualized, designed and simulated based in multi body dynamics to understand its dynamic behavior and structural strength. The study is done to understand and predict the 6-DOF floating motion of device along with wave surface motion and their interaction.
