Abstract

This study focuses on the relationship between barriers, strengths and academic performance of student-mothers taking up Bachelor of Secondary Education and Bachelor of Elementary Education at Laguna State Polytechnic University- Los Baños Campus. The respondents consist of 31 wherein 3 or 9.68% belongs to ages 18-20, 4 or 12.9 % are 21-23, 6 or 19.35% are 24-26, 7 or 22.58% are 27-30 and 9 or 29.03% are 31 and above. This study shows the correlation between the barriers, strengths and academic performance on two semesters with the general weighted average 2013-2014 of the student-mothers. The computed r-value of 0.387 includes a low correlation and the p-value of 0.0315 with degree of freedom of 29 is less than the alpha of 0.05 which comes up on a decision of rejecting null hypothesis, this means that there is significant relationship between the barriers, strengths and academic performance of the student-mothers. Based from the findings and conclusions the following are hereby recommended by the researchers: For the student-mothers to continue their studies despite of the barriers on the path they chose; For the teachers to be more considerate of the situations of the student-mothers; For the future researchers, as their reference for the continuous on related study.
