Abstract
The phenomenon of non performing loans (NPLs) is bankers main problem around the globe. Since NPLs are attributed to many factors of either macroeconomic or microeconomic nature, in this paper an attempt has been made to introduce a single NPL driver, which covers all these factors. This is called arrears and through a panel data regression a relationship between NPLs and arrears will be estimated. Our data cover many European countries.
