Abstract

English Abstract: Pressure Reduction Valves (PRVs) are a widely used device for controlling water distribution systems. The behavior of these valves is based on a chamber where the inlet and outlet water are controlled. Proportional Pressure Reducing Valves (PPRVs) are a variation of PRVs where the control system is a direct connection between the chamber and the point downstream of the valve. They are used where large pressure reductions are required. The traditional characterization of PPRVs considers a constant relation between the inlet and outlet pressure (λ). In this work an alternative approach has been made based on an experimental analysis of λ. The tests show that the parameter λ can not be considered constant. So, to characterize these VRPPs a mathematical model has been developed. This model can explain the variations of λ with the variation of inlet pressure and flow rate, becoming a more complete way of representing this type of valves.
