Abstract

An Amplifier plays a vital role in a communication system both at the transmitter and receiver. The receiving antenna receives the signal which contains both the information and noise. Also the received signal strength is weak which has to be strengthened. So a system which improves the strength and removes noise from information has to be used in the first stage of receiver. The initial stage of receiver is a RF amplifier which is a low noise amplifier. In this work a low noise amplifier is designed using distributed elements with different stability improvement techniques for C band i.e. 4 to 8 GHz assuming center frequency of 6 GHz which is a satellite uplink frequency for DTH application, to obtain optimum noise figure and moderate gain using Advanced Design System (ADS) simulation software. An optimum noise figure of 0.209 dB and a high power gain of 12.258 dB is obtained as a result of the designed low noise amplifier with the drain resistor connected to the device as a stability improvement technique.
