Abstract

African American Male Students are failing academically in many special educational programs within the public school each year. Osher, Woodruff & Sims (2002) reaffirmed this point by mentioning the point that African American youths with emotional and behavioral disorders frequently encounter curriculum that focus on control and behavioral management techniques rather than high academic standards in the classroom. This observational report based on African American Students out of a Central Illinois high school is one illustration of this problem and perhaps may lead to more research being conducted to help curb this issue.
