Abstract

Strong economic powers influenced the last war in the Middle East and tried to bring a new world order upon the region by implanting democracy, neoliberalism and absolute market openness. This article investigates the influence of neoliberalism on the US American foreign politics in the Middle East and specifically in Iraq. It focuses on neoliberal forces in America which are behind the official political decisions that are made towards the democratization process in Iraq. The article discusses primarily the real purpose behind the invasion of Iraq and its outcome. It also highlights the complicated interaction of globalism, neoliberalism and democracy, as private corporations and the military industrial complex have shifted power away from democratic objectives.

Keywords: Iraq democratization, US foreign policy, neoliberalism, national security
