Abstract
The participation of patients is one of intervention approach to ensure safety for patients as well as a way to improve patients’ role in treatment process. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 246 in-patients who were treated directly at a university hospital in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) using self-prepared questions in order to determine patient’s knowledge and practice about the Patient’s Rights based on the Vietnamese law of examination and treatment. The results show that the proportion of in-patients having knowledge of patient rights is relatively low (17.07%). The response level of hospital to patient rights is generally high (86.18%). However, the level of proactive provision of patient rights from hospital is not good when that rate is on average or under average (83.33%). Results from the study suggest a real insight into the patients’ understanding of their rights, participation in treatment as well as the response of the hospital.
