Interaction Between Foreign Trade, Innovation and Competitiveness: The Case of Republic of Moldova

Abstract
The book is focused on the importance of interaction between innovation, competitiveness and foreign trade. For the first time with reference to the Republic of Moldova, a multidimensional analysis that allows estimating the influence of export and import flows on the elements of innovational development and to establish directions and best ways in which it can be done, using the WEB simulation tools of International Institutions. The research shows that high-tech exports are concentrated on the medicinal and pharmaceutical products as well as the electrical machinery and its parts. SWOT Analysis for engagement of Republic of Moldova in technology intensity global value chains (GVC) is presented in the book. The research shows that backward participation is predominant type of engagement of the Republic of Moldova in network activity. Goods from Moldova are insufficiently penetrated in income value chains and mostly presented in low-income ones in European countries. The privilege of geographical position near Europe one of the main manufacturing hubs around of which is concentrated GVC is weakly used by Moldova. This study found the same that innovation competitiveness of a country is the main determinant for successful integration of country in the GVC. The study is based on the analysis of the Republic of Moldova's score and position in international indicators and rankings in correlation with the methodology of the World Economic Forum. The results of a study can be applicable for an elaboration of set the appropriate policies in the process of improving the governance of the research and innovation systems as well as an implementation of FTA with EU.
