Abstract

The objective of this study is to explore the nexus between trade openness and economic growth in Egypt for the time period of (1980-2015). Trade openness is a multidimensional concept and hence three measures have been used as proxies for openness: imports, exports and trade volumes (exports and imports). We have applied the ARDL model to examine for a short and long run relationship between trade openness and economic growth over the sample period 1980 - 2015. Our results confirm co-integration among the series. Moreover, in the in the long and short run, trade openness promotes economic growth.
