Abstract

In this article, Professor Richard D. Pomp honors Peter Faber upon his retirement for his integrity, sage wisdom, political savvy, technical virtuosity, and his friendship of more than 40 years. Peter was a renaissance man, a lovely, unpretentious, down-to-earth mensch, someone with finely honed political instincts, and a lawyer who combines technical virtuosity with a deep understanding of tax policy. He is a wordsmith who detests ambiguity, glittering generalizations, pedestrian observations, weak organization, verbosity, the passive voice, and plebian rote recitation. He always sets the bar high, and those who have worked with him are better because of it.

Peter was highly respected by the legislative, executive, and judicial branches as a gentleman of integrity who could be trusted. When necessary, he could put on his public interest hat and deliver a message that maybe his clients did not want to hear. There are simply far too few Peter Fabers. Hopefully Peter could be coaxed back into public service if the threats and stakes were ever high enough.
