Abstract
English Abstract: This paper describes the modern retailer development in Indonesia since the FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) liberalization policy in 1998. In order to explain the relationship between the modern retailer and the development issue in Indonesia. This study explored by an application of the Granger causality model with VAR (Vector Autoregressive) method. It found that existed two-directional causality on that issue. Accordingly, the development was most likely influenced positively in the period shortly after the policy went into effect. In contrast, the modern retailer development was likely affected negatively to the development in the later period.
