Abstract
Mobile Adhoc Networks (MANETS) are gaining popularity because of interconnected networks. Routing is a key issue which needs to be addressed for efficient forwarding of packets from source to destination. OLSR (Optimized Link State Routing) is a proactive or table driven routing protocol in MANETS which works on the principal of link sensing. Multi Point Relay (MPR node) is mainly responsible for forwarding of topology control messages in OLSR. In this work MPR node is selected on the basis of node’s best bandwidth neighbors .Well known Dijkstra’s Algorithm is implemented for finding shortest path and further expected transmission count (ETX) metric which considers both forward and reverse delivery ratio of packet helps in minimizing expected number of transmission and acknowledgement along a route. Proposed technique OLSR-LD is compared with other techniques of MPR selection (EEOLSR) as well as conventional OLSR. Extensive Simulations were performed using NS-2 Simulator by varying pause time of nodes, simulation time of nodes and speed of nodes. It has been proved through simulation results that energy cost per packet is reduced in proposed work as ETX of link results in lesser number of retransmissions along a route which results in reduced energy consumption by a node.
